In Conversation with the artists, Saturday 21 May, 11am
Popular ideas of islands and island culture tend to romanticise them in ways that avoid reality in favour of satisfying superficial ideals.
The exhibiting artists have all lived on islands and have made artwork that reveals something beyond the brief island experience of the tourist/visitor.
The exhibition traversed island life, artistic romanticism and romantic ideas of islands and island culture.
A CAST Touring Exhibition initiated by Salamanca Arts Centre, Hobart.

George Smiley - Irrespective
George Smiley creates functional and non-functional sculptural works. His series of ‘automatons’ are created by combining found objects with new materials.
The exhibition combined current 2D and 3D work with some earlier sculptural works from his series of ‘automatons’.
