RAYMOND ARNOLD: WESTERN TASMANIAN PAINTINGS

Raymond Arnold: Western Tasmanian Paintings

Saturday 9 January - Sunday 21 February 2010
Artist: Raymond Arnold

Raymond Arnold is an acclaimed artist both nationally and internationally. In 2007 he was the recipient of the prestigious Glover Prize for his painting titled Western Mountain ecology - The relationship rather than the things themselves.

This solo exhibition has been commissioned by the Devonport Regional Gallery and presents a new series of paintings based on the artist's timber mill research. To showcase the extent of the artist's investigation into the relationship of natural and heritage values, a selection of earlier paintings are exhibited alongside the new body of work. Included was a series titled Synecdoche III which Arnold created in the 1980's when undertaking a residency at Savage River. Also included in the exhibition was a four panel etching series from the Devonport Regional Gallery Permanent Collection titled Justify the Line - Iron Blow re-excavation.
