Bea Maddock is Tasmania's most highly regarded contemporary artist, known for her innovative printmaking and her masterwork, TERRA SPIRITUS...with a darker shade of pale, 1993-98. The Devonport Regional Gallery commissioned Bridget Arkless to curate an exhibition based on a little known, yet important work by Bea Maddock titled Leaving a Mountain. The eight-panelled work was created over the summer of 1992-93. It was purchased by the Devonport City Council in late 1993. ‘Bea Maddock’s Leaving a Mountain’ included loans from the Collection of the Queen Victoria Museum & Art Gallery, Launceston of working drawings created on site at Mt Moliagul, in north western Victoria.
