Devonport Regional Gallery

missing presumed dead

3 December - 15 January

Opening Friday 2 December, 6pm

  Curator: Paul Snell

In Conversation with Paul Snell & participating artists: Saturday 3 December, 11am
Paul Snell's curatorial project Missing presumed dead highlights an area of photography that has a rich, yet under-researched presence within the history of art and photography.
The exhibition addresses this ‘poverty’ by providing audiences with the opportunity to view – perhaps for the first time - a genre of nominal photography created by national and international artists.
DRG acknowledges CAST and CAST Touring who continue to provide assistance to galleries such as ours. This assistance enables us to promote contemporary art practice and invaluable curatorial experience.

Missing presumed dead
will be showcased across Australia over the next twelve to twenty four months.
'This exhibition has been taken up by interstate galleries in recognition of the quality of the artwork and the depth and relevance of the curatorial premise.
Missing presumed dead presents Tasmania as a culturally vibrant and creative state which embraces contemporary art ideas and practices that merge comfortably with national and international trends.'
Dr Colin Langridge, CAST Exhibitions and NETS Coordinator.

THE LITTLE GALLERY

Mersey
Julian Thompson
Thompsons's paintings use online aerial images to consider the relationships between the Mersey and its inhabitants.
Rather than employing a conventional pictorial view of the landscape, the use of aerial imagery sourced from the internet provides an uncommon vantage point for the viewer to contemplate the semi-abstracted imagery.
